Looking For a Good Book?

Why not start with our own Essex Library collection. We have more than 30,000 books and access to many more through inter-library loan.  We have fiction, non-fiction, both in regular and large-print format, audio books, videos, DVD's, CD's, CD-ROMS and magazines.  But what you see on our shelves is just the tip of the iceberg.

There are many wonderful internet sites of particular interest to readers.  Below are some of our favorites.

BookBrowse: a guide for avid readers - Provides extensive collection of reading lists for readers of genre fiction.

BookWire - includes Publishers Weekly Bestseller lists and links to many book awards, reviews, booksellers on the Web, author tours and book events.

Genreflecting - Developed by Diana Tixier Herald, the author of Genreflecting: a Guide to Reading Interests in Genre Fiction this site offers many reading suggestions for those who enjoy genre fiction such as romance, western, mystery and more. Click on the Books of the Week section for Ms. Herald's recommended reading reviews.

Great Writers - Links to: Major literary prizes winners, home pages of literary writers and biographical and critical information.

LibraryThing - Catalog your personal collection, plus hook up with over 700,000 other avid readers for tips and reviews on authors, books and genres.

Literature at Yahoo

Morton Grove Public Library Reader's Services - Extensive reader's advisory service includes many reading suggestions, bibliographies, a Match a Book service, tips on how to use the internet and many links to internet resources.

Multnomah County Library Readers' Connection - Helpful site includes connections to book discussion groups, booklists (including "if you like" reading lists, electronic resources

Readalikes
Readalikes are suggestions for readers who enjoy a particular author and would like to read books in a similar style or genre.
