Our reference collection in the Library is replete with dictionaries, atlases, directories, almanacs and encyclopedias on all types of subjects including: business and manufacturing, quotations, art, music, theater, medicine, law, biographies, reader’s advisory, Who’s Who, the NADA Used Vehicle Pricing Guides for cars, boats and RVs, and much, much more. We have the Connecticut General Statutes and state and local history materials and resources. We also have the Value Line Investment Survey and Morningstar Mutual Fund Service. We have the expertise and resources to help you find the information you’re seeking.
If you are doing research online at the Library or from home, you have full access to iConn, the state digital reference library, which provides access to hundreds of magazines, journals, newspapers and other resources through licensed databases. If researching from home, you’ll need the barcode from your Library card. (Go to: http://www.iconn.org/WhatYouCanSearch.aspx to see the resources available to you on iConn.) For first-time users, see the tutorials for using the various databases located at:

In addition to the materials located in the Essex Library collections, you can use ReQuest, the statewide catalog of library holdings, to look up materials at other libraries. We can obtain most materials from other libraries for you through inter-library loans.
